Where every day’s a spa day

What’s better than a hot tub in a party house? Better than a sauna? Better than a treatment room? Maybe the whole lot? At Lotus Cottage in rural Northants, you and your friends, hens or stags can wallow and simmer in your own exclusive boutique spa. Sweat it out in the sauna, relax on the day beds, and bubble in the giant hot tub.

If you’re looking for a private party for up to 16, Lotus Cottage and Spa is as playful as it gets. Book a massage with the therapist, go for glory in the games room on the football table and dartboard, kick a ball around in the three-acre garden. Round up your pals for rounders, enjoy croquet and gin on the lawn, get out on the trampoline like giant kids.

Chill on the swinging chair, let the conversation crackle around the firepit, open up the conservatory doors to the sunshine, cook soul food on the Aga and the coal barbecue. Or hire Joshua The Luxury Chef and put your feet up with some fizz. Sing along with the Sonos, burn some logs, say ‘om’ to on-site yoga. Every day’s a spa day here.

Soak up the full Sky package on the 55” TV in the garden room, plus NOW TV, Amazon Prime Video and Netflix, care of the Gigaclear fibre running at up to 100mbps.
Then sleep in eight bedrooms equipped with 300 thread-count sheets and memory-foam mattresses. Relax, rest, renew… remember to leave.

Gardens and grounds

You can measure gardens and grounds in acreage, or you can just tot up how much fun
they provide. But at Lotus Cottage and Spa, you get both. You’ve three acres of fabulous frivolity here filled with football nets, croquet hoops and swinging chairs.

Eat out on the coal barbecue around the 16-seater table, chew the fat around the firepit, book some yoga on the lawn. Enjoy the outdoors whatever the weather with the fully retractable doors on the conservatory.

Spa and living spaces

Indoor living spaces here are elegant and contemporary, comfortable and cosy. But dwelling on them would be to ignore the elephant in the garden. Follow the conservatory walkway to your own boutique health retreat. At Lotus Cottage, every day’s a spa day.

Everything’s centred around a sizeable bubbling, boiling spa pool with room for six sitting and six more standing. Get your cossie on in the changing room, relax on the recliners with fluffy towels, sweat it out in the three-person sauna. Book a massage or body treatment. If it feels like a real spa, it’s because it is one.

If you can hoist yourself out of the hot tub, head indoors to the garden room to binge blockbusters on the 55” smart TV offering full Sky package, NOW TV, Amazon Prime Video and Netflix. Stream and surf on the Gigaclear fibre running at up to 100mbps. Set your soundtrack on the Sonos, neck a Nespresso, chuck some more logs on the fire.

Cooking and dining

Cook like a pro on the two-hob Aga and NEFF fan oven. Or get an actual pro in and call Joshua Todd, the Luxury Private Chef, for menus that include halibut, pancetta and sorrel crumb, or rabbit and mussel paella. Stock up the American-style fridge-freezer with tapas and cheese from The Deli at Castle Ashby and fizz from The Wine Cellar.

Living in the garden room? Lucky you. You even get your own kitchenette with fridge. From there, it’s a quick hop to the coal barbecue and the 16-seater table. Stay out for the summer around the firepit on the terrace. Keep your gin cool with the ice machine and top things off with a Nespresso.

You’ve tasty takeaways to order from Khandan Indian Restaurant and Yumeijin Chinese and private platters from The Deli at Castle Ashby. Head out to The Bull in Olney for 28 day-aged Aberdeen Angus burger or southern-fried buttermilk boneless chicken thighs with sticky barbecue Boston beans.

The Half Moon at Grendon’s a good bet for pork tenderloin or New Jersey chicken, and the Falcon in Castle Ashby’s your venue for top nosh, with a tasting menu that includes diver-caught Orkney scallop and ‘first of the spring’ truffles. Sit out under cover at Locanda Gabriella for cocktails and cicchetti or enjoy Indian at Maya in Olney.

Just back from a lovely weekend at Lotus Cottage and Spa. The house is huge and has everything you could need. The spa area being within the house is so unique and made my friends hen do exactly what she wanted it to be. The jacuzzi was lovely and a great temperature, as was the sauna. We enjoyed the treatments and afternoon tea so much. The bedroom space is great. Would 100% recommend and would love to stay here again! Thanks so much. - Stef
Fantastic property with oodles of space. As a group of 7 adults celebrating an upcoming wedding, we were looking for a well equipped house with plenty of space to enjoy. This cottage was ideal. So many lounge spaces, you could choose the room to hang out in based on the tone you wanted. The well equipped kitchen provided a great hub, with fantastic island and bifold doors out onto the garden. The 2 dining spaces meant we could choose our setting, we opted for the glass dining room throughout our stay. The spa room was great, lots of space and those who didn't want to get in the water could sit in one of the many comfy seats around. - Colette
