With all the ambience of an Alpine mountain hotel, but none of the guests you wouldn’t want to be cooped up with, Snowdonia House is the best of all possible worlds. Pick your own travel companions – up to 28 of them – and head over to North Wales for the mountains, the movie room, and time with your old muckers.
Reunion? Celebration? Corporate retreat? Bring the generations, bring your colleagues, bring your dogs to captivating Capel Curig. Climb Snowdon, stroll by the river, picnic by Lake Crafnant, then head home to an oasis of granite-faced and leather-bound luxury. Raid the bar, catch a movie in the cinema room, waste an evening in the games room.
Play table tennis, table football, and pool in the games room, bring your games console, and help yourself to DVDs. Team away day? The cinema room converts happily into a flip-chart sanctuary. Sleep in individually designed en-suite bedrooms, combine rooms, add beds and cots. Play it your way in a haven of family flexibility.
Can you sit outside and admire the views? Three benches seating 12 plus a further 18 lounger chairs says yes. Feeling peckish? Stay out there for the coal barbecue with meat from Metcalfe’s in Llanrwst, and wine and deli delights from Blas Y Fwyd. End the day with an invigorating dip in the river in the paddock.
Enjoy the mountain views from the large living room and toast your toes in front of the open fire after a day’s walking. Come together as one big bunch or slide apart into groups as the mood takes. Drop by the old bar for a hotel-style drink on the leather sofas. Find the snug to recharge over a book.
Log in to your Netflix and Amazon apps on the cinema room’s 75-inch TV. Dive into the DVDs. Bring your games console or hook up the karaoke machine to the TV for an instant lyrics feed. Head to the games room for pool, ping-pong, or table footie. Get cheered on from the antique church pews around the sides.
The kitchen’s mountainous and it comes with two electric range cookers and an American fridge-freezer and further large fridge and freezer that you’ll fill with goodies from Scillion’s in Llanrwst, Mermaids Sea Foods, and deliveries from all the major supermarkets. Cook or be cooked for (with bar staff): the choice is yours.
At mealtimes, there’s an easy flow from the lounge to the dining area, with a dining table longer than the average submarine, so that everyone can eat together. We’ll leave the table plans to you. Wherever you sit, our hot servery keeps dishes and plates warm, so meals will be piping hot and chefs nicely chilled.
Call out for takeaways from Hangin’ Pizza or Abassi’s for Indian. Or pop out for a pub meal at Tyn y Coed with its three open fires. Call in for traditional breakfast, classic breakfast buffet, and award-winning sausages. Or how about the Swallow Falls Inn for a hearty breakfast, Sunday roast or speciality gins out on the terrace?
Fuel up your mountain hike at the Royal Oak Hotel and Stables Bar, and maybe catch a male-voice choir while you chow down on steak-and-ale pie or sticky-chilli fillet strips. Head to Abassi’s in Betws-y-Coed for authentic Indian cuisine, or to Hangin’ Pizza for breakfast baps, pizza, vegan pizza, salads, and desserts.
